Well, April is on its way out and I have failed at keeping this thing updated. I’ve been busy! I had a big master plan that I wanted to get finished! I also had three other designs as well. I received my first “pay check” if you will and am now going to take the money and set up marketing: logos, website, face book, business cards etc. The business I have received thus far is word of mouth. I spoke with our insurance agent and he is in a BNI (networking) group that I might try and join in August if they are still in need of a landscaper. I am also going to try and get NC plant certified in September (testing in Asheville occurs during this month). So I am rather excited, I am just hoping that I can continue doing what I am doing. I love it.
Girls. The girls are busy as well, it has warmed up here a bit and we pretty much spend every minute outside. Either in our neighborhood, parks, hiking, camping…living outside!
We discovered that Moonpie also likes icecream. She will try and slap it out of your hand to eat it.
I should have made a video instead of pictures! She is crazy!
Besides working, I go to the YMCA 5 days a week to work out. I take Leboot, TRX, and Athletic Conditioning. TRX is my favorite! I have met some seriously cool people and look forward to seeing their faces every day! Most of us are moms too!
This was after LeBoot and it was Jo’s 50th birthday, we did 50 burpees at the end of the class to celebrate!
My mom told me to go get the girl’s some jean jackets…they are all the rage now at our house!
Two weeks ago we took our first camping trip of 2016 to Carolina Hemlocks which is one of the top rated camp sites in America. It’s car camping. We took the new tent out and gave it a try, we loved it. The set up was amazing and super fast. It only weighs 3lbs and some ounces! The girls stayed in the North Face tent by themselves! We couldn’t believe it! We told them we would each sleep with one of them, but they wanted to stay together. Our tents were side by side so they just hollered at us if they needed anything. Saturday they took their longest hike ever, 8 miles. 3.75 of it was straight up. It wasn’t technical or anything, but it was straight up. We hiked Colbert Ridge Trail. We were almost to the top and we ran into some runners training for the Quest for the Crest and they were impressed with Addison and EK making it up that far. We told them we didn’t know if we were going to make it to the top and they said it gets gnarly at the top, hands and knees hiking. We felt that wasn’t a good idea for the girls and decided to pop open a coke and head back down. Ella Kate and coke. She has had maybe 3 in her life and every time she runs that mouth. She sang and made up songs and ran down that mountain. She had a fine fine time. I kept having to holler at her when she was getting to far. The girls are good at hiking, Addison will often complain at first…she even ugly cried right when we got on the trail. We let her hash that out and she was good to go. In order for them to make it, various delicacies must be presented. Jolly ranchers and dum dums usually do the trick but I knew this hike was a little harder and brought powdered donuts and some little debbie cakes. Those did the trick, especially the donuts! We also told them we would stop by the country store on the way back to camp and they could pick out there own candy bar. Both girls settled with sprees and shared a Gatorade.
When we got back to camp we headed down to the river to soak our feet. The South Toe River runs through the camp and boy was that thing cold! It felt like razors cutting you…it was so cold! Addison fell in and we headed back to camp to make dinner. Also while camping, our kids love to dig…we brought our diggers and bucket and they had a fine time making things. They also love glow in the dark things. I had stopped in target and got necklaces and bracelets for them.
South Toe River
Making Jiffy Pop over the fire and glow and the dark wands.
Ella Kate made herself a teepee with a cairn underneath.
We go all out for car camping food! Grilled chicken with white BBQ sauce, zucchini, and pasta!
Epic fail on a selfie of the fam…I didn’t fit in!
We have a serious problem.
For the month of April, Addison’s school has been all about kindergarten readiness. They have had several programs and she even got to sit on an actual school bus. They sang songs one day in church and then we had a cookout afterwards. I am not sure if I mentioned this or not, but they both got into a brand new charter school called Fernleaf. Charters around here have somewhat of a “theme.” Fernleaf’s is environment and sustainability, which is right up my alley! So taking a big leaf of faith and hoping that it is a good fit for us! If not, back to the creek we go!
Last weekend, Papa came to visit for almost 24 hours! Mimi had to stay at home because she had Anna Claire. Ella Kate had her first symphony last Sunday and it was fantastic! They played Twinkle Twinkle and then she played again in the finale which was I’ll Fly Away. Ella Kate loved it and said she couldn’t wait to do it again!
The week before I got a letter in EK’s notebook saying her artwork was selected and was on display at the mall. So we went to check it out, she had no idea what piece was selected. Less than 10% of the students work was selected…there may have been 30 pieces on display? Hers is the pumpkins.
Last Friday Ella Kate participated in the fun run at her school. She is a quick runner! We ran a little bit at Bent Creek on Tuesday while Michael was running!
This week was crazy hair day at EK’s school. I am not very good at hair and this was as crazy as we got! Addison immediately wanted her hair crazy as well!
Michael is in full train mode for his next 100 miler in Ohio this summer. He runs every morning and needed a night run, so we picked Tuesday. We picnicked and hiked while he was running at Bent Creek.
So, there you have it, April in a nutshell. The girls have started swim lessons again and unfortunately the only time that worked with our schedule was Saturday…so camping will have to wait until June! I am hoping that the third time is the charm with Addison, she is very excited this time which is a big change. This is the third time to repeat the beginners swim lessons. We gotta get that girl swimming! Also this weekend we should be landscaping one side of our house! The shady side…cause those are the plants that came in this week!
