On February 12, 2016 my dad retired! I believe my mom said he worked 40 years and 2 months! He had several lunches and dinners with his co-workers, some he has worked with for many decades. I can’t even begin to tell you what he did for Bayer Crop Science but I know it was with the safety department, he had to travel around and field all the accident reports and do safety tests and things like that. What I do remember most about his career was that he was traveling…all the time. He was basically home on the weekends! That is a lot of traveling! I remember Holly and I would bombard him when he got home to see what he had brought us in his travels. During the ice storm of 94 he brought McDonald’s home from the airport as we had been without power for I don’t know how long!
At one of his feasts everyone wore these fun buttons and they had made a scrap book of current and antique photos. People wrote letters and things to him.
Overall he is enjoying retirement. Mom said it was a big change and they are a little sad…I could only imagine..working that long and then one day you don’t have to go to work…no work emails, phone calls, texts coming in. I’ve been through that twice now! I keep telling Michael that I am retired for the moment. I am working on that though, thinking about freelancing again.
So his first official week off they came here to visit us and the girls! My parents got in last Friday and came over to see the house for the first time. We mowed down tacos and they took the girls to the hotel to spend the night. We still haven’t bought our other mattresses for the beds yet. Saturday we went to the Biltmore and walked through the house and the grounds. The weather was pretty nice, just not sunny. Saturday night we took them to the girl’s favorite restaurant…Asheville Pizza. Sunday they came to our church and back to our house and we visited and played games and grilled burgers. They left Monday morning. Currently, Ella Kate is battling a cold and also asthma.
Valentine’s Day weekend Michael and I got sort of dressed up and dropped the kids off at our church for a parent’s night out. We went and ate at 131 Main and then headed over for a beer at Thirsty Monk and went and picked the kids up!
Ella Kate has been super envious of Addison’s Cheerbear she got from HoHo…so Mimi and Papa got her a Sharebear. It hasn’t left her site while at home!
Michael and I have never really celebrated Valentine’s Day…but I did get this…as it was on sale big time!
Sunrise and a little snow at the house.
I got him!! I got a close picture of the White Squirrels that live around us. They are rare and only found in a few spots around us! EK is home sick with the asthma and she got to see it too!
